Mmm Monday....

 Monday, September 28th

This is a reminder that the daily blog will be moving to the Google Classroom starting Thursday, October 1st. You will need to log in with your child's school email account (.... educbe.ca) and their password. Please take the time to check out the daily announcement in the stream.

If your child is away for an extended period of time, and are healthy enough to do some school work, the Google Classroom's daily announcements will give you an overview of what was missed. Some of activities will be posted in the Classwork for your child to view and work on.

📅 Upcoming Dates: 🔶 Orange Shirt Day - Wednesday, September 30 - Virtual Assembly at 8:30 AM - Please wear an orange shirt on this day. Orange Shirt Day The Grade 5/6 classes will be hosting a virtual assembly on Wednesday, September 30 at 8:30am. Show your support by wearing ORANGE! In 1973, six-year old Phyllis Webstad was gifted a brand new orange shirt from her grandmother and wore it to the residential (mission) school she attended in British Columbia. Upon her arrival, school officials removed and discarded the shirt from her and replaced it with a school uniform. This greatly impacted the mental and emotional well-being of Webstad and symbolized that "her feelings never mattered." September 30 was chosen as the date to commemorate all the children that attended residential schools as it was also the time of year that children had to leave their homes. · 😎 Non-Instructional Day - No school for students – Friday, October 9th · 🦃 Thanksgiving Day - School closed - Monday, October 12th ✍🏼 LA/SS: We viewed the Phylis Webstad video discussing the origins of Orange Shirt Day. The kids continued to work on their Wordles. Part of this discussion included conversations around the slogan, "Every Child Matters." We wrote our own paragraphs, entitled, "Why I Matter." We are on the edge of our seats when we're listening to Silverwing! Feel free to ask us what happened today when Shade and Marina encountered the pigeons. We shared and expressed our visualizations of this chapter of the story! ❎ Math - Students continued to work with factors, showing their understanding by choosing a number and building arrays with blocks to show all of the possible factors for their chosen number. They also had time to work on the activity sheets from last week. These can be viewed in Classwork (Number Bonds; Listing the Factors) 🌳. Science - WOW (work on work) Time - students had an opportunity to complete their visual journal page (Why Are Trees Important) 🎵. Music - Mrs. Anderson has created a Google Classroom with Music links and information for students. Students are asked to accept the invitation to the Music Google Classroom, Please take a look at it for some fun photos.
